2025 was a foundational year for me. I slowed down, learned deeply and worked on aligning my work and life more intentionally. It was also the year I was at my fittest, both physically and mentally.
Here’s a short recap of the wins and lessons that shaped my year.
Work
Wins
- I increased my hourly rate by 30%. It was scary, but having a client pay the new rate affirmed that I deserved it.
- I invested significant time, energy, and resources into learning new skills, including AI coding, Webflow, Figma, and selling.
- I attended networking events with potential clients and partners and planted seeds for future collaborations.
- I posted three educational videos on my YouTube channel. They are now unlisted because I changed direction, with new videos coming in 2026.
- I clarified my core offer: helping entrepreneurs build thriving memberships.
- Using Notion to plan my work and life helped me feel more organized and grounded.
- I launched a Substack newsletter focused on membership tips and insights and published 7 articles.
- I finally published my website.
Areas to strengthen
- I did not come close to reaching my financial goals.
- I hesitated to pursue certain opportunities because I felt I was not ready. This is something I am actively working on.
- I had a client relationship that was not a good fit and ended the contract early. I am proud of myself for making that decision.
- I did not put myself out there as consistently as I would have liked.
- I changed my offers frequently and struggled with shiny object syndrome.
Relationships
Wins
- I attended many networking events and met new people I plan to stay in touch with.
- I gained a mentor I am deeply grateful for.
- I attended mastermind sessions almost every week, where we supported each other and talked through our businesses.
- I joined several communities, including The Lab, which unlocked meaningful opportunities for me.
- A cat named Romie showed up at my apartment door in January 2025. Thank you, Cat Distribution System.
- I served as a mentor for Founderboost Kenya. Seeing what different startups are building reminded me of my own startup journey.
Areas to strengthen
- While I met many people, I did not have a solid follow-up system. This is something I plan to improve in 2026.
- I did fewer 1:1 conversations than I would have liked and mostly connected in group settings.
- I was not as intentional as I could have been about nurturing relationships in my network.
Health
Wins
- I was highly physically active this year. I ran, lifted weights and walked regularly. I started the year by summiting Mount Kilimanjaro and completed 10 half marathons.
- I ate mostly healthy, balanced meals.
- My sleep quality improved significantly.
- I meditated almost every day.
- I learned how to play padel.
Areas to strengthen
- During half marathon training, I was often fatigued, which affected my daytime productivity.
- I injured my left knee during a run, though it recovered after a few weeks.
- I took swimming lessons with the goal of moving from beginner to intermediate, but I still feel like a beginner. I am still struggling with breathing while swimming.
- I did not reach my target weight. I aimed to gain 3 kg, but the volume of running during my half marathon training led to weight loss despite lifting weights.
Hobbies
Wins
- I got back into crochet and made half a blanket (half because I ran out of yarn).
- I attended Nairobi Design Week and felt inspired to return to creating.
- I joined a book club and read eight fiction books. Since I usually read non-fiction, this felt like a meaningful shift.
- I finally travelled to Europe for the first time and visited Hungary, Czech Republic, Sweden and Denmark.
Areas to strengthen
- I did not paint, even though I bought more painting materials.
- I am still not comfortable driving.
I am so grateful to the people and experiences that shaped my 2025 and I am excited to see how it all unfolds in 2026.
Cheers 🥂
